Derek Schoenmakers

Derek Schoenmakers returns for his second season as Head Coach within the WMHA organization, having served as the Coach for the U16 AAA Wolves for the 2023/24 season. Prior to that, Derek served as the lead Assistant Coach for the U18 Kitchener Jr. Rangers for 3 Years. 

Derek’s playing career saw him play his minor hockey in the Alliance, before making the jump to the GOJHL for two years followed by 4 years in the OHL, including finishing with the hometown Kitchener Rangers. Derek then proceeded to play four years at Wilfrid Laurier University, graduating with a degree in Economics. ×

Kyle Morrison

Kyle Morrison comes back to the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association for his second season as Assistant Coach, having served as the Lead Assistant Coach for the U16 AAA Wolves for the 2023/24 season. 

Kyle’s playing career saw him play his minor hockey in the GTHL, before making the jump to the OJHL for two years before making the QMJHL, where he played for the Gatineau Olympiques. Kyle returned to the MJAHL for his overage Junior season where he was named a first team All-Star and League Leading Point Scorer. His growth and success led to four years at Wilfrid Laurier University, where Kyle captained the Men’s Varsity Hockey team.×

Brendan Woods

Brendan Woods comes to the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association for his first season as Assistant Coach with the U15 AAA Wolves. 

Brendan’s playing career saw him play his minor hockey in the Alliance, before making the jump to the GOJHL for two years before jumping up to the OJHL for two more seasons, where he was a consistent PPG player over his Junior Career. His junior success led to two more years at Wilfrid Laurier University, as a member of the Men’s Varsity Hockey Team. ×
