Tough Battle With Kitchener Jr Rangers Red
The Waterloo Wolves White squad put up a solid battle against the Kitchener Jr Rangers Red team this past week and earned themselves a place in the Alliance Championships in April.
Although the Wolves did not have the end result of finishing at the top of Tier 1, the players, coaches and parents should be extremely proud of the hard work and team effort that was displayed. Waterloo stepped up their game during their series against Kitchener, winning the first game Tuesday night with a score of 2-1. It seemed as if the players had found their groove. It would be a busy week for the team, with practices and games scheduled every day, testing the players energy level and drive. And although Kitchener earned the win Thursday night, Waterloo brought the intensity Saturday evening. For the first two periods of play Waterloo and Kitchener were tied at zero. The defence put up a solid fight in front of the net, while the forwards brought the puck into the zone and took shots with accuracy. Our goalies were amazing; keeping Waterloo in the game with some fast reflexes and nerves of steel. It certainly was not a lack of effort or determination that caused the unfortunate end result for Waterloo, but rather a simple numbers calculation... Kitchener managed to get more shots off and had some puck luck into the net. Congratulations to both teams for some great hockey and special recognition to the Wolves for showing class and dignity Saturday night during the medal presentations. The coaches from the Kitchener team mentioned how they always enjoy playing against Waterloo White. A challenging game of intense hockey, without any dirty play. Well done Waterloo!
As we look forward to the Alliance Championships in April, the Waterloo Wolves should hold their heads high knowing that they are a tough team to beat and that they have definitely made an impression on the Kitchener team. Go Wolves Go!!
