Novice Gold Advances
Novice Gold closed out a pesky Woodstock team Sunday evening to advance to the East/Central Finals and earned a birth to the Alliance Championships.
Tuesday night the Wolves hosted Woodstock at Moses Springer. While the Wolves dominated much of the play, they struggled to get the puck past the Woodstock goaltender. Mike B. and Grayson P. would eventually work the D to D pass and blast with Ryder H. shoveling in the rebound for the 1-0 lead in the second. The Wolves would fail to get an insurance goal in the second and third despite several chances. Woodstock would pull their goalie and tie the game up with just seconds left in regulation. A 5 min overtime solved nothing, and the Wolves would be forced to hit reset on the series.
Saturday, the Wolves squeezed into the Woodstock Civic Centre. The Wolves would jump on the Navy Vets early and get up 1-0 early in the first on a goal by Lucas P. from Emre A. Woodstock responded immediately to tie the game at 1-1. Mike B. quickly restored the lead with a blast from the point for a 2-1 lead after the first. Colten T would add 2 goals in the second to stretch the lead to 4-1. In the third, Woodstock would make it 4-2, but Emre A. would respond to restore the 3 goal lead and the Wolves held on for the 5-2 win.
On Sunday, Gold hosted at the Waterloo Rec Centre. The Wolves would thrive with the extra room of the big ice. Grayson S. would make a big rush but lose the puck at the net. Emre A., however would poke it past the Woodstock tender to give the Wolves the important first goal. Shortly afterwards, Cam M. would jam away to make it 2-0. In the second, Colten T. would rip one upstairs and Wyatt M. would flip in a backhander to make it 4-0. Woodstock would push back at the end of the second, but Boyd S. would make some key saves to keep them off the board. In the third, the Wolves would get several chances but could not add to the lead. Woodstock would break the shut out with just over a minute left, but the Wolves would hold on for the 4-1.
The Wolves with face twin city rival Kitchener Red in the East/Central finals and they have qualified for the Alliance Championships in London on April 13-15th.
