Gold Locks Down First Place
Waterloo Novice Gold secured first place in the East/Central Tier 1 loop with two shut out wins and 4 pts.
Saturday afternoon, Gold ventured into steel town to take on Hamilton Blue. Liam C would get one early while Hunter C would get one late in the first to get the Wolves up 2-0 with Cam M and Emre A picking up assists. The Huskies refused to go down easily and provided some push back in the second but Boyd S stood strong to keep the score 2-0 after 2 and through the beginning of the third. In the second half of the third period, Lucas P and Wyatt M would add insurance goals with assists to Emre A and Grayson P for the 4-0 win.
Sunday afternoon, the Wolves hosted Woodstock at Albert West. The Wolves would get into penalty trouble immediately, allowing Woodstock to dictate the initial tempo. Once back to even strength, the Hunter C, Lucas P, and Emre A combo would pick up where they left off in Hamilton and give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. In the second, Ty B would protect the 1-0 with some key saves before Matthew P and Liam M cycled the puck to Liam C whose blast left Woodstock confused long enough for Colton T to slam home the trash for the 2-0 lead heading into the third. The Wolves opened the third with 2 quick goals by Ryder H and Wyatt M. This opened the flood gates as Colten T and Ryder H would add their second goals of the game, Liam M would notch a single and Wyatt M would add his second and third, while the referees lost track of the assists. The 9-0 final gave the Wolves 34 pts and secured first place and the President's trophy pennant for the season.
Coach Zac, coach Richie, and coach Scott received the final Wolf Pack hats of the year as individual accomplishments will now be set aside as playdown preparations begin. The Wolves face Kitchener Red in a March break Thursday showdown and Burlington Red Saturday to close out the season.
