Back to .500 Hockey in League Play
Novice Gold picked up 2 wins versus Woodstock on Sunday and are rare Tuesday game against Kitchener White to climb out of the Tier 1 league play cellar.
On Sunday, Gold hosted Woodstock in a foggy, sticky, Albert McCormick West match up. Conditions were so poor that the Wolves fans had to frantically squeegee the glass to see. On the ice, the Wolves controlled the play for most of the game, but they were repeatedly thwarted by the combination of a stingy Woodstock defense and goaltender, and poor ice conditions. Wyatt M. would get the only goal of the game off a nice feed from Rohan J. midway through the first. Ty B. and Boyd S. split the shared shut out, but saw very little, if any action, as the Gold defense put is a solid effort in denying Woodstock access to the net and even their own zone.
In rare weekday action on Tuesday night at Moses Springer, the Wolves hosted Kitchener White. The Wolves would score early and often en route to a 13-1 win. Highlights included Emre A. and Colten T. with hat tricks, Grayson S. with a goal and 2 assists and Liam C. getting the first goal of his Novice career. The Wolves shuffled positions throughout the game, with Grayson P. putting is some solid work up front (when he remembered to stay on side), earning a nice assist and just missing some close chances. On the downside, the Gold team defense was a bit loose and sloppy, especially compared with the previous Woodstock game. Ultimately, this resulted in Kitchener notching the last goal of the game to ruin the shut out attempt.
Up next: The Wolves head to Kingston for a weekend tournament with a quick detour to Ottawa before to take in a Senators game on Thursday.
