Game #1 vs Kitchener AA
On Saturday, September 10 the Minor Bantam AA/A Wolves
banded together at RIM Park for their first game against their cross-town rivals,
the Kitchener Junior Rangers. The parents hit the ground running with an impressive
showing in the parking lot: merriment, fueled by sausages.
The Wolves Goalie played strong to keep it scoreless at the end of the first. The Wolves worked hard, trying to make things happen and came really close a couple of times.
Kitchener struck first at 14:11 in the second. Soon after, the Wolves headed to the power play when Kitchener received 4 minutes for head contact. The Wolves had a great attempt right off the bench on a line change, but was stopped by the glove of the Kitchener goaltender. A huge attempt by the Wolves at 6:26 in the second met the same fate. The second period ended with Kitchener still leading 1-0.
The Wolves came out hungry in the third, eager to get on the scoreboard. The Wolves made a big block at 13 minutes, keeping the Rangers at bay. The Wolves made some great passes trying to generate a goal, but unfortunately, Kitchener was able to take advantage of a power play to make it 2-0 at 6:03. Another quick goal by Kitchener just trickled over the line after a valiant attempt by Wolves net minder.
Never giving up, the Wolves kept the pressure going. A couple of great shots by the Wolves forced the Kitchener goalie to make some quick glove saves. With only 49.6 left in the game, the Wolves were finally rewarded for their efforts with a beautiful top corner snipe. With an empty net, the Wolves kept shooting, right into the last seconds of the game and in the end, just ran out of time.
Though the final was 3-1, the crowd was proud and cheering loudly for this impressive first showing by our team who had been formed less than 48 hours earlier. We can’t wait to see what they’ll do next. Go Wolves!
