Waterloo Wolves hang on to tie Cambridge Wolves
The Minor Peewee Select team got the new year off to a good start ... for two periods.  Then the post-Christmas lethargy hit like a ton of bricks in the third.  Curtis has the full story on this somewhat confusing affair...

Good evening, and thanks for watching this January 5th, 2013, edition of Sports Desk on the Waterloo Sports Network. Tonight we saw the Waterloo Wolves playing  the Cambridge Hornets. Emmett took the start and didn't see too much action. Chris took over just in time for Cambridge to get their legs and put him through the paces. Waterloo had a 2 - 0 lead going into the third, but seemed to slow down a little and gave up two goals, making it a 2 - 2 game by the end. Maybe they were a little tired from watching the 4am World Junior game.

Now it's time for what everyone has been waiting for, and that's the Top Ten Plays of the Night, starting with, number 10...

10.  Here's Jeremy at 8:40 in the first period, he breaks away down the centre, dekes around the D, a beauty of a shot, but denied by some solid Cambridge goaltending.

9. At 3:11 in the first, Waterloo gets on a 3-on-2 breakaway with Brody, Spencer, and Nathan making some textbook moves into the Cambridge end. They couldn't quite get off a hard enough shot but a nice play nonetheless.

8. Late in the 3rd period, after we saw a little pushing and shoving between teams earlier in the period, plus a little jawing back and forth, here's Spencer, not happy with a Cambridge player getting into Chris' grill, gives a push that sends the Cambridge player into the Waterloo net. We're not supposed to be doing that in these games, but you also need to protect the goalies. And no penalty either.

7. In the second, Cambridge gets a penalty for a trip, and the referee is calling for number 77 to go into the box - but the Cambridge players have no idea what numbers they're wearing, and confusion reigns for about a minute. More on this later.

6. Tristan seems to have a little extra zip in his legs, perhaps because he spent the morning as the goalie for his recreation team and is happy to be stretching his legs in the evening.

5. Zack clears the puck out of the Waterloo end and sends it right at the goalie from all the way across the ice. It didn't go in, but the Waterloo fans watched in hopes of a lucky bounce.

4. Back in the first period, at 6:32, we have a scramble in front of the Cambridge goalie. The Waterloo forwards are all over the goalie, Brody slaps at it, then Spencer takes a crack, the Nathan puts it in just around the pads for the first goal of the night.

3. In the third, Chris takes a pounding. Cambridge is all over him. He makes a stop, then another, then smothers it. Cambridge is still slapping at it and Chris is looking around for a ref to finally blow the whistle. Nice work, Chris!

2. Tic-tac-toe! Xavier and Peter (filling in for Josh) work some magic near the Cambridge crease, then Tristan gets a hold of it and ROOFS it with authority! What a beauty. Too bad there wasn't a Gatorade bottle on top to go flying.

And finally, the highlight of the night:

1. We go all the way back to the start of the game. Here comes Waterloo onto the ice in black. Then comes Waterloo again...this time in white? Yes, the Cambridge coach left their jerseys out on the wash line so they needed to borrow some uniforms from the home team. Thankfully it didn't look like the players were confused by it, but Cambridge sure learned a lesson today.
