Stop the presses ... Wolves don't score first!
The Minor Peewee Select team found themselves in very unfamiliar territory against a feisty Cambridge team ... having to play from behind.  Despite being down 1 - 0 late in the second period, nobody panicked.  The boys displayed a lot of patience, perseverance, and good old-fashioned hard work to pull away in the third period.

Good evening folks, and welcome to Sportsdesk. Tonight we only have one hockey game to report, and that of course was the Saturday night game featuring the Waterloo Wolves versus the Preston Hornets. I mean the Cambridge Hornets. Okay, it was a game versus Cambridge in the Preston Memorial Arena. In Cambridge. With Prestonites cheering on the Cambridge players.

Okay, in the first period we have....not much, other than the introduction of what may be a new rule that can only be described as goalie-touch-whistle. If the puck touches the goalie, there's a whistle. The players were first introduced to goalie-touch-whistle late in the period when the puck went under the Hornets' goalie and into the net, but was waived off perhaps because the puck touched the goalie.

In the second period there was plenty of back and forth play but not much going into the nets. Cambridge got onto the board first with 6:55 to go in the second, then three minutes later Nathan pokes in a nice looking rebound, tying it at one.

Now for the third period, where most of the action took place. Waterloo turns up the jets early on, passing at every opportunity, but, at first, not to anyone in particular. But they start to gel soon enough. Here's Jeremy with a perfect cross-ice pass to Ben, a shot, and... saved by the red-hot Hornet goalie. A minute later, a scramble in the Preston, er Cambridge, end, it's Josh to Tristan, then Tristan to Nathan and Goal! Waterloo gets the go-ahead goal then never looks back.

Soon after, Brody launches ahead with a 1 on 2 breakaway, fires off a rocket, but Cambridge makes a pad save. Brody gets his own rebound, slides the puck to Tristan, Tristan sees an opportunity and passes it to Spencer who fires it home to make it 3 to 1. Only 30 seconds later Ben gets a point when Cambridge lets in a bit of a wobbler, with assists from Josh and Jeremy. Now it's 4 -1, but the goalie-touch-whistle rule comes into play again and the puck gets whistled down in the Cambridge end. Five minutes to go, Ian goes into the box, but the damage is already done to Cambridge/Preston.

Even with the score clearly in their favour, Waterloo keeps on digging. Casey moves the puck through the neutral zone, looking for an opening, passes to Spencer. Spencer takes the shot, rebound to Brody, who spanks it in to secure the 5 -1 win.
