International Silver Stick Champions!
The Ice Wolves travelled to Niagara to participate in the 13th Annual International Silver Stick Finals thuis past weekend. 20 teams were entered in this tournament and, on Sunday afternoon, the Ice Wolves were victorious as they defeated the Sarnia Jr. Sting 5-3.
Round Robin play saw victory's over Napiervile, Illinois (6-1), Midland, Michigan (4-0), Mitchell, Ontario (6-1), and New Hamburg, Ontario (5-0). In the 1/4 Final, Waterloo played Aspen, Colorado and although the score was 5-0, the game was anything but one sided -as Waterloo scored all their goals in the 3rd period. In the Semi Final game, Waterloo played San Jose, California and it took overtime to advance as Connor Olsen's shot eluded the goalie with 48.6 seconds left in OT to give Waterloo a 4-3 win. Waterloo then faced Sarnia in the Championship game and got off to a quick start as Olsen and Preston Young gave Waterloo a 2-0 lead, but Sarnia came right back until Owen Fenton gave Waterloo a 3-2 lead going into the 2nd period. Colton Tucker made it 4-2 and Cameron Young finished off the scoring for Waterloo as they defeated the Sting 5-3 to take the championship. Well done Ice Wolves!
