5 years involved in minor hockey - combination of Coaching & Convenor role for Woolwich Minor Hockey and Waterloo Minor Hockey.

Why did you become a hockey coach?
To guide and mentor young players in developing their skills, to help grow their love of the game, and to make sure they are having fun doing it!
What's your Coaching Philosophy/Approach?
Setting achievable team and individual goals. Teaching the value of teamwork with positive reinforcement, hard work, skill development all while having fun.

Over my coaching career I've been lucky to work under/ with some fantastic coaches that I've been fortunate to learn a lot from. We have had success at various ages and levels, most notably 4 Alliance Championships as an assistant coach with the '98, '99 and '00 born U16 Waterloo AAA teams and the '00 U15 Waterloo AAA team, and a Alliance Co-Championship (COVID year) as Head Coach with the '06 born U14 Waterloo AAA team. I have been lucky enough to coach dozens of players that have gone on to play various levels of Junior, college and pro hockey.

Started playing at age 5; Player until 16-17 when a knee injury ended my chances to play Junior

Why did you become a hockey coach?
Started when college friends from my residence asked me to come and coach them. My minor hockey coaching started a couple of years later when a friend's Dad asked me to help him. From there, my love for the game was rekindled.
What's your Coaching Philosophy/Approach?
The game must be fun. I believe strongly in hard work and a team first approach. Every player must feel like they have value as part of the team.

Anything else you would like to share about yourself?
Over the past 20 years, I have had the opportunity to coach at various different levels from U10 to Junior B and work with a number of great coaches, players and teams. I have been a member of a number of successful teams, winning championships in the ALLIANCE and the OMHA as a Coach in the NOHA as a player. Most recently in the past 3 seasons from U10-U12 in Waterloo, the team has compiled a regular season record of 73-3-5, a playoff/playdown record of 24-1-2, won multiple tournaments and an ALLIANCE title.
