It has been a season of injuries to date for the Waterloo Wolves,
but regardless, the team has been great at battling in games and clawing out
points whenever possible.
Against the Brantford 99ers the Wolves were missing Antonio
Parisi, Logan Landry, Cam Murray, Ciaran Guitton-Quayle and Jackson Hunter and
felt the absences in a 4 to 2 loss. However, against the Woodstock Jr Navy Vets,
Parisi returned, and pushed that needle in the Wolves favor in the tune of a 7
to 2 win.
In Brantford Allan Wang got the Wolves on the board first
after he stole the puck in the 99ers zone and made no mistakes with a hard low
shot scoring unassisted. Ben Schofield converted on a pass from Logan Murtha
and Reed Rozema to put the Wolves up a goal but that was all the offense the
team could produce with 12 of the 20 minutes of the third period spent shorthanded.
Offence wasn’t an issue in the game against Woodstock.
Grayson Seiling opened the scoring from Wang, A and Dell Wang. Carter Talboom
was awarded a penalty shot and made no mistake scoring. Owen Ottens scored from
Hiatt Rich and Parisi. Rozema scored from Talboom and Rich. Parisi scored from
Rozema and Rich and then Rich scored from Ben Sawyer and the teams AP Jimmy
Provencher. Cole Fitzgerald also played for the Wolves in an AP role rounding
out the defense with Cole Gardiner.
The Wolves received some solid two-way play from Casey Ross
over the weekend. Ross has been asked to focus on the play down low in the team’s
zone and was fantastic in the games.
Jake Howard has played in every game since Guitton-Quayle
went down with injury. Howard has shown no signs of fatigue and thrived with
the heavy workload. Howard is a consistent goalie that just goes about his job
with high compete and success.
The Wolves will have another opportunity to earn a win
against the 99ers this weekend as the teams face each other for the final time
before playoffs on Saturday. The game is the only action the Wolves have this weekend,
so the coaches expect the players to be ready to play extra hard.
Go Wolves.
