Congratulations to the Waterloo Wolves
players for successfully becoming the Alliance U18 AA/A Regular Season Champions!
It is a real honor to get to coach
such a hard working and talented group. This accomplishment marks the Wolves’ first
step towards their Alliance Banner dream. Coming into the season as underdogs makes
it even sweeter. The team set out with a goal to make the AA/A Constellation
seeding and not only did they make it, they crushed it!
The Wolves have one game left and
are in hunt for a 50 plus point season that includes: Orangeville Fall Classic
Champions, Waterloo Memorial Champions and The Buffalo Outdoor Classic
Champions. The Wolves are guaranteed to finish with the most wins and fewest
loses in the league. The team currently sits with the fewest goals against,
highest win percentage and goals for percentage as well. All this has earned
them a well-deserved bye headed into playoffs.
The rest is well deserved and much
needed.
Against the Hamilton Huskies
Saturday, the Wolves won 2 to 1 in an ugly game that lacked much energy or
intensity. The Wolves were missing Logan Murtha and Jack Gardner in the game so
Jack Smith, Owen Miloje, Evan Walsh and Christopher Ding saw a lot of ice on
the back end. Keegan Weatherdon was out for the weekend as well. Ethan Kralik
worked his tail off in the corner and behind the net to set up Ben Morton for
the first goal and Casey Ross picked up a loose puck to score unassisted for
the game winner. Ciaran Guitton-Quayle had his work cut out for him and stood
tall for his team as always.
Against the Brantford 99ers Monday,
the Wolves won 5 to 3 in another game they lacked bodies. In fact, in this
game, the Wolves saw defensive debuts from Morton, Reed Rozema and Jacob
Shaughnessy. All three forwards helped on defense as only Walsh, Miloje and
Murtha were available. Rozema opened the scoring from Walsh and Connor Wilson.
Wilson scored from Morton and Jack Mayne. Morton scored from Ross and Miloje. Allan
Wang scored from Shaughnessy and Ross added an unassisted goal to end the game.
Jake Howard didn’t see much help from
his team in the first two periods but was able to keep the score close for his
team making key saves when the Wolves needed them most.
Friday night the Wolves will
officially close off the season and begin to prepare for a tough playoff. All
the teams going into the AA/A Constellation seeding are talented, hard-working
team and anyone can win on any given night. The Wolves, to date, have proved to
be the most consistent team and will need to ride that strength to fight their
way to becoming Alliance Champions!
Go Wolves.
