Shift after shift, the Waterloo
Wolves players hop the boards and play the teams system. They don’t get too
high when leading or too low when trailing. They just work hard, play fast and support
each other. Their attention to detail and trust within each other has resulted
in a consistency that continues to earn the team points.
For those paying attention, those
points have led the team to the best record in Alliance. For those not paying
attention, let me get you up to speed, the Wolves lead with 18 wins, 38 points,
0.826 winning percentage, 0.736 goals for percentage, winners of four straight
games and 9-1-0 in last ten games. They have done all this by allowing the
fewest (38) goals against in Alliance.
The latest victims of this consistency
were the Woodstock Jr Navy Vets (4 to 1 Wolves win) and the surging Sarnia
Sting (4 to 2 Wolves win).
It was a very productive weekend for
Casey Ross with 4 goals and 2 assists over the weekend. Against the Navy Vets Ross
opened the scoring from Owen Miloje, Ross then set up Ben Morton before scoring
his second of the game from Jack Gardner and Evan Walsh. Jack Mayne scored the
final goal of the game from Morton and Keegan Weatherdon.
The Casey Ross Show continued into
Sarnia, Ross scored the first two goals in the game with his first being set up
by Reed Rozema and his second from Rozema and Jacob Shaughnessy. Rozema scored
the game winner from Ross and Morton scored the final goal from Mayne and
Weatherdon.
Back to the theme of consistency,
how about the goalies on the Wolves? It
doesn’t matter if it is Ciaran Guitton-Quayle or Jake Howard in net. You know, beyond
a doubt, you have amazing goaltending and, on most nights, the best goalie in
the game.
The Wolves are stingy with guys like
Jack Smith, Logan Murtha and Christopher Ding patrolling the zone, it is no
surprise. The whole Wolves team has stepped up with their play without the
puck. You see everyone committed to the back check and guys like Ethan Krail
and Allan Wang shut down teams attack on a regular basis.
Each and every game here on in will
have playoff implications. Every team will have highs and lows and being able
to channel those emotions and control them will be key to who finishes season
as King of the Hill. Luckily for the Wolves coaches, their players have
consistently shown how capable of this they are!
Go Wolves!
