The Waterloo Wolves won their
seventh straight league game topping the Cambridge Hawks 5 to 2 Wednesday
night.
The win brought them to a season
high 0.800 win percentage as the Wolves reached the half way point in games
played. In the first 15 games played the Wolves have 11 wins, 2 losses and 2
ties with 66 goals scored and 29 goals against for a +38 goal differential.
Not too shabby. Especially when you
add in a couple tournament championships. But this is when the going gets tough
and the Wolves need to find a way to separate themselves from the top teams. Team
systems execution and compete will be the bread and butter moving forward.
Keegan Weatherdon had another two-goal
evening. His first goal was set up from Owen Miloje and Ben Morton and his
second goal from Morton. Connor Wilson had a goal from Evan Walsh. Jacob
Shaughnessy scored from Christopher Ding and Weatherdon and Morton capped off
the night with a goal from Jack Mayne and Casey Ross.
The game also marked the first time
this season the Wolves had a full and healthy bench. Ethan Kralik returned from
illness and centered Allan Wang and Ross. Reed Rozema stayed with Morton and
Mayne joined that line. The “high school boys” line remained intact. With Walsh
returning on defense, it gives the Wolves a nice mix of toughness with Logan
Murtha, Jack Gardner and Jack Smith and finesse.
Ciaran Guitton-Quayle had the start
in net for the Wolves and picked up the win. The Wolves have had excellent
goaltending all season and “GQ” once again stepped up and made a highlight reel
save cross crease that his teammates named the Play of the Game.
The Wolves will face the top seeded
London Green on Saturday before heading into the Christmas break and enjoying a
couple weeks of relaxation. The team will need to empty their tank to get a big
win in that final game of 2024!
Go Wolves!!!
