The Waterloo Wolves are getting comfortable
picking up wins in other team’s barns. This time the team travelled to
Woodstock and topped the Jr Navy Vets 5 to 2 Sunday night.
As it has been a season long, every
game a new player emerges as the scoring threat with a multi goal performance.
On this day it was Connor Willson and Keegan Weatherdon who both scored a pair
of goals and an assist. Wilson’s first goal was set up by Ben Morton and Weatherdon
and his second, a short-handed marker, was off an excellent pass and effort by
Casey Ross. Weatherdon opened the scoring in the game from Logan Murtha and his
send goal was from Morton. Jacob Shaughnessy scored from Ross and Wilson.
The Wolves moved closer to a healthy
line up despite missing the energy and intensity Ethan Kralik brings to the
team. Kralik missed the game due to illness. Both Evan Walsh and Jack Mayne returned
after long term injuries. Walsh returning solidifies the D core and helps take
the pressure of Jack Smith, Jack Gardner, Owen Miloje, Christopher Ding and
Murtha.
It was another solid performance
from the teams’ forwards with several guys buzzing all game. Allan Wang set the
tone early with a great scoring chance and Reed Rozema created space and
opportunities for teammates. The forwards dominated in the neutral zone early
and the team defense didn’t allow a shot on net in the first period.
That said, the team lacked urgency
once up by three goals. Jake Howard had to be sharp in net for the Wolves. Howard
once again was rock solid and earned another win.
The Wolves will have a weekday game
in Cambridge before finally playing on home ice again. The undefeated Jr
Knights Green will come to town and give the Wolves an opportunity to hand them
their first loss. The players will need to work hard this week and come
prepared on the weekend if they plan to be successful in that mission.
Go Wolves!
