Hello! We are very excited to begin tryouts this evening for the 2023-2024 U10 AA/A season! Thank you to all the players and parents who are taking the time to participate.
We are aware that tryouts can be stressful for some of the kids (and parents!) and we will be doing our very best to limit that stress as much as possible.
We have 40 skaters and 5 goalies signed up to skate tonight and over the next week or so we will be choosing our team of 15 players (9 Forwards, 6 Defense and 2 Goalies). We have 5 evaluators assessing the skaters and 4 evaluators assessing the goaltenders tonight along with 3 on ice helpers. In addition, myself and Robert, another one of our coaches, have scouted several games at each level (House League, Select, MD Black and MD Gold) over the past two months. The most difficult part of the process for everyone is releasing great kids. As a result we will be very considered in our approach to choosing our team. We will release kids only based on these in depth evaluations. The names of players continuing on in the tryouts will be posted here after each tryout.
For those players who will be on the team next season, here are a few items of interest:
- we will have two skills based practices in May before Summer begins: Saturday May 13 at 1pm to 2pm at the Waterloo Rec Centre and Saturday May 20 at 2pm to 3pm at RIM Pillars. The cost will be divided among those players who can make it. These practices are optional.
- our practices during the season will be: Mondays at 630p to 730pm RIM Pillars and Wednesdays at 5pm to 6pm at AMC East
- the coaching staff is exploring doing skill development with an outside company once every two weeks and power skating during the alternating week. These activities haven't been firmed up as yet.
- we plan to compete in 4 tournaments this season. Plans are being finalized for these tourneys and at least 3 of them will most likely require overnight stays.
The coaching staff is committed to developing the players as best we can, both in skill level and also in teaming.
