The purpose of this article is to provide some general information about this years Minor Peewee select team and provide some answers to common questions about playing select.

About this years Peewee Select Hockey team:

Select hockey is made up of players from the Waterloo house league program who tryout for the team and are selected from amongst the candidates. Our select team will play other area select teams in exhibition games and tournaments. In order to qualify to play for this years team a player must be born in 2005 and must be registered to play house league in Waterloo thru WMHA in addition players trying out must have the tryout fee of $25.00 paid thru the head office at rim park in waterloo to be able to tryout. There will be no "pay at the door" kind of thing available. Only players who attend the tryout sessions will be considered for the select team regardless of how good they are or whether they played select in a previous year. All spots on this years team are open and we will carry 2 goalies, 6 defensemen and 9 forwards. Potentially we may also designate some players as AP's (Alternate Players).

What am I looking for in players?

1. Skating ability: Speed, edges, and stopping (forwards and backwards).
2. Hockey skills: Passing, shooting, stick handling and positioning.
3. Hockey smarts: Players that show an aptitude for the game and a willingness to learn.
4. Effort: Players with a high compete level that give it their all in games and practices.

When are tryouts?

Tryouts for the Minor Peewee Select team will be on the following

Oct 1st 2016  5:30-6:30 pm Albert  McCormick (West)

Oct 2nd 2016 9:30-10:30am Rim park ( Optimists)
Oct 2nd 2016 5:45-7:15pm Albert McCormick (west)
Who should try out?

Everyone. Tryouts are a great way to get some extra ice time and to get exposure to the competition of trying to make a team regardless of current skill level. I strongly encourage all players who are interested in select hockey to come to the tryouts.

What will the select season look like?

I plan to have 16 practices, 14 exhibition games against local select teams and play in 2 tournaments (tournaments will get us 3-5 games depending on how we perform).. The season will begin right after tryouts conclude and a team is selected and will end with the Alliance Championships tournament in April.
Volunteers needed:

It takes several dedicated people to make a team a success and this year we will be looking for volunteers to help us with all aspects of the team including,, fund raising, parent rep, some additional coaches to help with practices and stats tracking to name a few. All of these types of positions will need to be filled once our team is selected.
