RE: Increased number of reported Racial and Homophobic Slurs
We have recently had an increase in the number of reported racial slurs to ALLIANCE Hockey. Some are alleged and not identified by referees while others have been called as a GRM63. In light of the rash of reports of “racial slurs” ALLIANCE Hockey is issuing this bulletin to each of its Member Associations and Referees.
Please pass this bulletin on to your teams at all levels of hockey, and assist us in a zero tolerance of this cowardly and deplorable conduct. We all know that as your teams enter play downs and playoffs a 3 game suspension can be very costly.
More importantly kids play hockey no matter what the level AAA to house league to learn about life skills, respecting the opposition AND ONES RACE, ETHNIC BACKGROUND, SEXUAL PREFERENCE, GENDER AND HERITAGE is one of the many skills that we need to teach our participants.
In a situation where a complaint is raised regarding a racial slur that was not called by the officials it must be reported to ALLIANCE Hockey. It will be brought to the attention of the Association in question who must investigate the matter and bring their findings back to ALLIANCE Hockey. ALLIANCE Hockey in consultation with both Minor Hockey Associations has the ability to suspend pending investigation and or witnesses to the act.
