MINOR PEEWEE AA/A WOLVES WIN THE GUELPH POWER PLAY TOURNAMENT
THE GUELPH MINOR HOCKEY POWERPLAY TOURNAMENT NOV. 22-24 2013
THE MINOR PEEWEE AA/A WOLVES BLACK began their quest for the PowerPlay Cup vs the Erindale Spitfires.
The team got off to a good start peppering the Erindale goalie with shot after shot.
After the first period the game would remain 0-0.
Erindale on a powerplay would would take the lead 1-0. A goal where the puck bounced off the end board deflecting onto the stick of an Erindale player who buried it in the net.
The Wolves would respond with a goal of their own only to have it disallowed. The referee losing sight of the puck, deep in the net as the goalie pulled it out.
The Wolves would come up short falling 1-0. Shots were 30-11 for the Wolves.
The second game the Wolves would take on the Niagara Falls Canucks.
The Wolves familiar with the Canucks from the Early Bird Tournament would again prevail in a 3-0 win.
Shots were 20-16 for the Wolves. Victor with the shutout in goal.
Game 3 vs Pickering Panthers was played on the NHL sized rinks at the viewing friendly West End Rec Centre.
The mornings family Christmas photo session proved not to be a distraction for Colby K.
Colby would go on to score the hat trick in the Wolves 4-1 win. Shots were 25-11 Wolves.
The final game in the round robin would see the Wolves taking on the Leaside Flames.
A close battle that the Wolves would take 2-1. Shots 16-15 Wolves.
After round robin play, the top four teams would move on and the bottom 4 would head home. The Wolves would place second with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss and the best GF%.
The semi final had Waterloo taking on the Whitby Wildcats who also had a 3-1 round robin record.
The team tamed the Wildcats with a relentless attack, great defensive coverage.
Shots were 23-7, the Wolves would win easily 5-1.
The Wolves would wait to see who they would meet in the final. The other semi final game between Stratford and Erindale would end in a 1-0 OT win for.......Erindale.
The final now set; a rematch the Wolves were hoping for.
Erindale vs Waterloo Final Game 5 p.m.
The fast paced, tight checking, scoreless first period had the nerves heightened.
The Wolves would break the tie in the second period going up 1-0. Both teams starting to trade chances.
Powerplay opportunities led to exciting end to end action.
The Wolves would go up 2-0 but that lead did not prove to calm the nerves of the full capacity crowd.
The Wolves looked to go up 3-0 but again as in the first game vs Erindale the goal would be disallowed. (it was in)
Would Erindale rally after the call? The score 2-0 after 2 periods of play.
Erindale would score quickly off the drop of the puck to start the third period. Wow the intensity.
2-1 Wolves and momentum quickly changing in Erindales favour.
The Wolves would respond to take a 3-1 lead.
The Wolves on a penalty kill would score a shorthanded goal, 4-1. This stopped all Erindale momentum. Another goal would be scored to seal the game, 5-1, a sigh of relief turning into joy for all the members of the Wolves.
Victory over Erindale a 5-1 win.
