Sudbury Silver Stick International Tournament
Stop me if you heard this before……the Waterloo Wolves entered the tournament short on healthy bodies…..yes, when it rains it pours!

And, another thing that never seems to change, the Wolves players battled through with courage and effort that impressed not only their coaches and parents but the tournament organizers as well. The “team with no players” won 2 out of three round robin games before the tires fell off and they simple had nothing left in the tank. It was like nothing I have seen before. The Wolves played games with only one of the defenders they selected in tryouts and forwards playing defense to try and get 4 defenders suited up. In the games the team had 6 forwards, they rarely had 6 all game. It was truly impressive watching players take on roles and positions they never had previously and give all they had to try and win.

You guys have nothing but respect from the coaches.

Game 1: 2 to 1 win over Copper Cliff Reds

Jake Howard picked up the win in the game. Reed Rozema scored from Carter Talboom and Casey Ross scored the winner on a breakaway.

Game 2: 2 to 1 loss to the Oshawa Generals

Ciaran Guitton-Quayle battled hard in the game and was a big reason it was so close. Ben Scofield scored from Ross and Allan Wang.

Game 3: 5 to 3 win over Halton Hills Thunder

Howard picked up his second win of tournament. Talboom scored from Wang. Grayson Seiling Scored from Jackson Hunter and Hiatt Rich. Scofield scored from Rich and Cam Murray. Wang scored from Ross and Schofield. Seiring put the game away with an empty netter.

Quarterfinals: 6 to 0 loss.

Guitton-Quayle weathered the storm in the game. The Wolves were as tired a team I have ever seen and battled hard, but you could see the wheel fell off.

The Wolves would have loved to have had Owen Ottens, Christopher Ding, Ben Sawyer, Logan Landry or Logan Murtha on the ice, but the injuries have mounted up and the boys gave it their all. The real positive thing about all this is that the players went all the way to Sudbury knowing how hard it would be to compete, but did it, battled, and gave their all. Players are getting reps they may not have had, and they are improving and learning.

What does not kill you only improves you! We will fight to the end and when healthy be ready to challenge the best! Thanks to the players for your efforts! And thank you to the parents for making it such an amazing and fun weekend!!!

Lets go, Wolves!
