The Waterloo Wolves attacked the Brantford 99ers net all
game firing 43 shots and were rewarded with a 5 to 2 win for their efforts and
showed complete dominance at even strength.
It was the fourth straight games the Wolves reached 5 goals
in a single game and the balanced attack proved too much to handle.
Matthew Anderson opened the scoring for the Wolves with his
goal assisted by Connor Palmer and Tyler O’Hearn. Yianni Peppas fired a shot
from the point scoring from Caleb Cumming and Cole Ledgister. Matthew Ball had
a goal from Jacob Reid-Brant and Declan Uniac and Cole Hunsberger had the final
goal from Cumming and Tate Merritt.
It was an important game for the Wolves as it leap frogged
the team over the 99ers into third place and set the stage for the team to face
the Hamilton Huskies in a game that would leapfrog the Wolves over the London Jr
Knights Green and tie them with the Huskies for first overall.
It was the third consecutive start for Ben Pendleton in
place of the injured Mitch Simmons. Pendleton showed no signs of fatigue and
was particularly brilliant during a 5 on 3 penalty kill where the goaltender caught
any puck in sight and was unbeatable.
Another area the Wolves have excelled in has been their
forecheck. Griffin Beddis excelled as the F1 and forced several turnovers. Ryan
Beckner was a back checking monster and Cole Ledgister was killing penalties
and dishing hard hits all over the ice. The physicality on the back end from
Jackson McNichol, Jake Patterson, Peppas and Merritt was complimented perfectly
from the exceptional skating of Cullen Derry, Carson Bernhardt and Palmer.
There is a definite buzz in the locker room and a real sense
of determination as the team appears locked into proving they are the team to
beat in Alliance hockey. The players have a firm belief in their teammates and
have shown passion to support each other. If the players continue to play with
this much effort there is no telling how far they can go!
Go Wolves!
