Tryouts and Season Update
Welcome to the 2018-2019 hockey season! The following is some information for the players and parents interested in Minor Bantam select.

Our goal for the team is to have fun while working on developing hockey skills – both individual and team.

We want each player to challenge themselves to get better each practice and every game. Players will achieve success through active listening during practice, providing full effort in each drill, being willing to fail and make mistakes, and supporting each other throughout the season. Our Motto this year is:

                           Play Hard

Play Smart

Play Together

We have an exciting year of hockey and team building planned for the players. All team games and practices will be posted on the team page on the WMHA website – https://waterloominorhockey.com/Teams/4170/. The select team will have approximately 20 practices, 20 exhibition games with local select teams, and participate in 3 tournaments:

1.    Byron Optimist Competitive Tournament, Jan 18-20, 2019, London, ON.

2.    2019 ALLIANCE Hockey House League Select Championships: April 4-7, 2019, Brantford, ON

Tryout Details

Sept 29 – 4-5pm Moses Springer

Sept 30 – 9-10am Waterloo Rec

Oct 6 – 8-9pm Albert Mc East

For evaluations of position players (forwards and defence), we will be looking for energetic players who demonstrate effort – with and without the puck, skating ability, good puck control, passing and shooting skills, puck pressure, and overall hockey sense.

For Goalies, we will be looking at physical skills (balance, mobility, & quickness), technical skills (rebound control, glove and pad work), situational tactics (positioning and angles, challenging shooters, crease movement), and overall compete level, i.e. prepared and ready for shooters and focused on making that first save.

After each tryout ice time, a list of players who are invited back for the next tryout session will be listed on the team website.  If your child’s name is not on the list, they have been released for the remainder of the tryouts and we wish them all the best with their house league season.

The team will be comprised of 2 goalies, 15 skaters (9 Fwds, and 6 D), and 3-4 alternate players who will be contacted separately after the tryouts. Players will be asked about their preferred position but may be asked to play another position based on team make-up and coaches assessments. The alternates will be invited to all the practices and will replace rostered players who are unavailable to attend games.

If you have any questions regarding the tryout process or the season ahead, please send me an email: [email protected]

I look forward to seeing everyone at tryouts!
