Schill will wear 68 to honor Beacock
When the coaches of the Waterloo Minor Bantam team hung the jerseys around the room and told the players to go stand in front of the number that they would like to wear this season, Jake Schill immediately walked over to jersey #68.
" I wanted to wear the number that Jakob Beacock wore as a Waterloo Wolf " Schill said. Jakob Beacock was playing for the Waterloo Minor Bantam MD hockey team in April of 2014 when he passed away after suffering an appendicitis related illness. Last season the Waterloo Minor Hockey Community gathered in late April to remember Jakob Beacock at a charity hockey game named after Jakob. The Beacock Cup NHL Idol charity game raised funds towards the Jumpstart charity in Jakob's name. Schill was lucky to be a part of the big event. "It was a really fun hockey game and I got to play as my favorite player Pavel Datsyuk". " It really felt like I was drafted and got to play in a real NHL game." "It was so much fun, and it was good to raise money for charity." Schill said. That day is one that Jake Schill will always remember, not only did he get to be an NHL Star he got to be part of an event that helps others. Jake looks forward to wearing #68 this year with pride in memory of a fellow Waterloo Wolf.
