Welcome to the Waterloo Minor Hockey Houseleague Program
The Waterloo Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) Houseleague offers an exciting and inclusive program designed for young players of all skill levels who want to experience the thrill of hockey in a fun, team-oriented environment. Our goal is to foster a love for the game while emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development. Whether your child is a beginner or already has some hockey experience, the WMHA Houseleague provides a great opportunity to enjoy the sport and make lasting friendships.
What is the Houseleague Program?
The Houseleague program is ideal for players who are looking for a less competitive, recreational hockey experience compared to representative hockey. We cater to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17, ensuring that participants play in divisions appropriate to their age and skill level. Games and practices take place in a structured yet relaxed atmosphere, where players can develop their skills without the pressures of intense competition.
Our dedicated team of coaches and volunteers is committed to creating a positive experience for every player, focusing on skill-building, game knowledge, and—most importantly—having fun on the ice.
Structure of the Houseleague Program
The season typically runs from September through March, with a balanced mix of practices, games, and special events. Each team plays approximately one to two games per week, and practices are scheduled to help players work on their skating, puck-handling, shooting, and team play.
In addition to regular season games, we offer:
- Skill Development Clinics: Focused sessions to help players refine specific aspects of their game.
- Tournaments: Mid-season and end-of-season tournaments to showcase what the players have learned and provide a fun, competitive experience.
- Special Events: Fun days, team-building activities, and community events to foster camaraderie and team spirit.
Involvement in the Tri-Cities Houseleague (TCHL)
Waterloo Minor Hockey Houseleague is a proud member of the Tri-Cities Houseleague (TCHL), which also includes teams from Kitchener and Cambridge. This partnership broadens the range of competition for our players, allowing them to play against teams from other local communities while still maintaining the friendly, houseleague atmosphere. Participation in the TCHL gives players the chance to experience travel to nearby arenas, meet new friends, and engage in a wider hockey community, all while playing at a level that suits their abilities.
The TCHL helps enhance the overall experience by providing a structured league format with set schedules, a championship season, and the opportunity for inter-city tournaments. For players and families, this expands the horizons of local hockey while keeping things fun and manageable.
