Welcome, my name is Ryan Bayne,
and it is my privilege to be the Head Coach for Waterloo Wolves U12 Select team
for the 2025-2026 season. If you’re
considering WMHA Select hockey and want to learn more about me and my coaching
approach, please see my summary below. I
am looking forward to a great season ahead!
Coach Biography
I’ve played hockey at all levels
of minor hockey—from house league to AAA.
After minor hockey I played Jr. B/C before attending University of
Guelph where I played my last year of Jr. B. I’ve been living in Waterloo for several years
now, and I began coaching in 2019 when my son started with WMHA. I’ve been on the ice ever since, including the
past two seasons as Head Coach for the 2014 birth year Select team.

Coaching Philosophy/Approach
Winning is fun, and we will aim to win, but my primary philosophy will be
player development. I know many of the players aspire to play rep hockey, and
with the help of assistant coaches and parents, I’ll do everything I can to
support them on that journey.
Coaching
Style
Just like the players are trying
to get better on the ice, so am I, with my understanding and approach to coaching. In general, I utilize Hockey Canada Player
Development tools as my foundation and then tailor my approach to meet the
needs of each player and the team. My
style blends structure with flexibility, and I try to mix in a little fun too.
Waterloo
Wolves Select Hockey
Participation in the Waterloo
Wolves Select program requires a unique commitment to both your HL team and our
Select team. To play on our 2025-2026
U12 Select team you must be registered with WMHA and participate in the WMHA HL
program. Select hockey offers players additional
ice and a chance to compete at a more advanced level of play with additional
practices, games, tournaments, Alliance Championship and team social
events.
I look forward to seeing all the
players interested in being part of the U12 Select Team on the ice in just a
few short weeks.
