MD - Minor Peewee Black vs St. Catharines Hurricanes
Waterloo Wolves reduced the St. Catharines Hurricanes to a light breeze with a shutout 1 - 0 whirlwind victory.
It only took one goal mid way through the first period to earn the team's first shutout victory of the season. The wolves won the face off draw. Michael Wei flipped the puck back to the point where Luke Young blasted a scud missile on the net. Lucas Doyle was waiting off to the side as he made no mistake and buried the puck into the open net.
Austin Zappitelli took it from there. He stopped all the shots he faced. The defense kept the Hurricanes at bay allowing Austin to see everything. The puck looked like a beach ball says Austin. The team worked on their breakout passing and aggressive fore-checking.
Last year's Jack Adams winner, Greg Eckert, coached his 1000 game of his career. He also picked up win number 600 as his record improved to 600 wins, 52 ties and 0 losses over the 1000 games. When asked what he attributes this great achievement to, he said, "two things: hard work and letting Keith take the credit for the 348 losses."
