Robin Cumming Named Trainer of the Year
U14 AAA Wolves Trainer Robin Cumming has been named the 2024-2025 ALLIANCE Trainer of the Year!
Congratulations to U14 AAA Trainer Robin Cumming on being named the 2024-2025 ALLIANCE Trainer of the Year!
Cumming, a goalie coach, trainer and mentor, has volunteered with Waterloo Minor Hockey since 2007 and is on the ice with his own team and others all year long. He is extremely well respected and admired by players, coaches and parents alike.
"He teaches us to take care of our bodies... he knows the game of hockey very well and he understands us as kids" said a few of his player on the U14 AAA Wolves.
"Without the parents, without the coaches, without the kids listening and understanding and working on some of the health benefits that I talk to them about, it just wouldn't mean that much." Cumming was appreciative of his supporting cast, but it was those around him who wanted to thank him and help him get recognized for this award.
"He's an amazing guy, the kids warm up to him almost immediately, they respect what he says and he can relate to them on their level." said WMHA President Pete Carr. "He was always there when we needed him. During tryouts and evaluations we'd call on him for help... he's the epitome of self sacrifice."
U14 AAA Head Coach Steve Darbyson said "he's honest and upfront with them, willing to work on anything they want or need. If there is a nag, a knock, an injury, he explains it, he treats them and he educates them at the same time." He stressed the importance of this for U14 aged kids who will need to know these things when they move up to U15 and U16.
