OHF Freedom of Movement Policy - Representative Teams - WMHA UPDATE
🏒 Residency Caps for 2025-26 AAA, AA/A, and BB Teams

As we prepare for the 2025-26 hockey season, the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) is implementing residency caps for our AA/A and BB teams. These caps are designed to support the development of Waterloo players while ensuring our teams remain competitive.

🔹 OHF Player Movement Policy

Player movement is governed by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Player Movement Policy, which allows players in the U10 age group and above to participate with the Association of their choice regardless of residency.

⚠️ Important: The Freedom of Movement Policy is an OHF rule, NOT a WMHA policy. If you have concerns or questions about player movement, please contact the OHF office directly. The OHF has a Freedom of Movement dedicated webpage, which includes FAQ's and contact information. CLICK HERE to access their webpage.

🔹 AAA Residency Caps

For the 2025-26 Season, there are NO residency caps in place at the AAA level.

🔹 AA/A & BB Residency Caps

For the 2025-26 season, residency caps will apply to our AA/A and BB teams:

Caps represent a maximum, not a target – teams are not required to fill non-resident spots.
✅ If a team wishes to exceed the residency cap, a business case may be submitted for review.
Waterloo resident players will be prioritized whenever possible.

❓Why is WMHA Implements Residency Caps?

WMHA is committed to fostering local player development 🌟, ensuring that Waterloo athletes have strong opportunities within our program. These residency caps help balance competitiveness 🏆 with development while maintaining a strong hockey community.
