U9 - Start up and Schedule Information
HELLO U9 FAMILIES!

Welcome to the 2024-2025 season of Waterloo Minor Hockey! We are excited to have you, and your young players join us for a fun and rewarding season of hockey.

We have posted information on the U9 division, under our House League tab on our website - CLICK HERE to access this information.

We consider our U9 Division as our “transitional” division – your players have left the Initiation Group and are transitioning to our Junior Divisions (U9-U13). You will start off the season on half ice as per Hockey Canada mandates, but graduate to full ice games in early January 2025.

As we gear up for the start of the season, we wanted to share some important details with you to help get things underway smoothly.

Start-Up Schedule – U9 Houseleague:
Our first skates will kick off on September 14, 2024. Please CLICK HERE to see your player’s exact ice times. These initial ice time/practices will focus on skating, fundamental skills, and, most importantly, having fun on the ice. These skates will allow our Coaches/Conveners to assign players to teams to make them as balanced as possible skill wise.

Tryout Information – U9 MD:
Should your player have an interest in participating in representative hockey this upcoming season, CLICK HERE for the details of the U9MD Tryouts.

U9 Pre-Season Skates:
Waterloo Minor Hockey is hosting preseason skates (4 hours of ice with instructor) for our U8 and U9 age groups. Information on the skates, including registration, can be found by CLICKING HERE

Equipment Requirements:
All players are required to have full hockey gear, including a properly fitted helmet with a full cage, mouth guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, skates, and a stick appropriate to your child's height. A neck guard and jock/jill are also mandatory. CLICK HERE to access a list of required equipment and a helpful graphic of how the equipment is to be worn.

Jerseys:
Each player will receive a hockey jersey to use throughout the season. These jerseys should be ready to go for the first skate but in the off chance they are not, please toss an extra jersey into your players’ hockey bag. The jersey can be any color and have a number on the back or not.

Friend Requests:
We understand that playing with friends can enhance the experience for many young players. If your child has a friend they would like to be placed with, please speak to the Convener/Coaches at the initial ice time. While we do our best to accommodate these requests, team placements will also consider balancing skill levels and ensuring competitive teams.

Seasonal Schedule:
Our full seasonal schedule will be released shortly after the teams are formed. This schedule will include regular practice times, games, tournaments, and any special events planned throughout the season. Keep an eye on our website for updates!

Speaking of a Convener - We Need One!:
To help things run smoothly, we are currently looking for a volunteer to serve as the U9 Convener for this season. The role involves coordinating between coaches, parents, and the league, ensuring that everyone stays informed and organized. If you're interested or would like to learn more about what's involved, please reach out. Your support makes a huge difference! Please reach out to our Office at [email protected], should you be able to commit some volunteer hours. Our Staff and Executive members will be there to support!

Thank you all for your commitment to the Waterloo Minor Hockey community. We look forward to seeing your players on the ice and making this a fantastic season!

If you have any questions or need further clarification on anything mentioned above, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
