Waterloo Gold Goes into the Home Stretch With Two Wins
With the regular season wrapping up next weekend, it's a tight race between Waterloo Gold (46 points) and London Gold (47 points) for first place. None of the six other AA teams can catch up with only a handful of games remaining. Waterloo needed to win both games this weekend to stay in the running, and they did just that.

Waterloo played hard against Woodstock on Saturday but couldn't get on the board until the 3rd period, when Hayes, Shi, and Lenizky all scored. Ludolph had the shutout and Hayes was named player of the game.

In today's game against London Green, the first goal was scored by Taylor and Hayes just 2.5 seconds before the end of the first period. Taylor took the low shot from the blue line and Hayes deflected it from the edge of the crease over the goalie into the top of the net. The second goal was another beauty. Duckett wrapped around the net, gave a short pass to Lenizky in front, the London goalie gave up the rebound, and Duckett picked it up again to score. A couple of back-to-back penalties for Waterloo made for some tense moments at the end of the second, but Waterloo's strong penalty kills kept London from capitalizing on their power plays. London got on the board at the top of the third with a bouncer in front of the busy Waterloo net to make it 2-1. With only five minutes to go in the game, Onuska fed a nice pass from the corner to Hemmerich who rifled it at the net, hit the crossbar and deflected in to score -- a birthday present for his mom. The final score was 3-1. Guerriero had a great game with some amazing saves. Taylor was named player of the game.

Waterloo Gold's final two regular season games will be played next weekend, one of them against London Gold. It's likely that this game will decide which team ends up in first.
