The game that was rescheduled with the Stratford Warriors
fell on the Family Day long weekend and many Waterloo Wolves families had
already taken advantage of a rare weekend off making plans with family.
So, with a depleted line-up, the team went into Stratford
and battled for an impressive 4 to 1 win.
The Wolves, as mentioned already short on bodies, lost Riley
Webster to injury early in the game as well leaving the defense with Jackson
McNichol, Jordan Abbott, Evan Walsh and Jack Smith. There can’t be enough said
about how they all rose to the occasion and played a lot of hard minutes in
front of their goalie, Sam Miller.
Miller stood his ground as well to help his team. After the
Warriors scored in first period Miller shut the door and was spectacular the
rest of the way keeping his team win the game until they rallied to score 4
unanswered goals.
Cole Hunsberger opened the scoring for the Wolves from Evan
Wallace and Matthew Ball on the power play. Wallace then had back-to-back goals
with his first of the game coming from Hunsberger and then Wallace added
another power play goal from Ben Morton and Hunsberger. Jack Mayne put the nail
in the coffin with a goal from Morton and Ball before leaving the game with a
spirited fight.
It was a gritty game, and the Wolves did a great job of
winning battles. Griffin Beddis and Hunter McMurdo were aggressive all game on
the forecheck, and Cole Ledgister was a beast on the back check. Jack Thompson
continued his stellar play as well.
It is never easy when you are missing as many players as the
Wolves were missing and it was ironic the team had to play with so many missing
after the Warriors rescheduled due to missing players. It is a testament to the
character of the team and their ability to play through adversity.
The win was the teams 30th on the season and 6th
straight. The Wolves have not lost a game in their last 8 now as well.
Keep working boys!
