It took longer to get
on the scoreboard than the Waterloo Wolves have grown accustomed to but the
result, a 3 to 1 win, over the London Jr Knights White, was a familiar result
as the team found their game.
Matthew Anderson continued his hot hand with a goal and
assist in the game. Anderson made a great behind the back pass to an open Jacob
Reid-Brant to open the scoring. Tyler O’Hearn also earned an assist on the play
and added an assist on Anderson’s goal with Rei-Brant also picking up an assist.
Declan Uniac scored as well from Matthew Ball and Carson Bernhardt.
Ben Pendleton recorded another win playing in place of the
injured Mitch Simmons. Pendleton has seen a lot of action and has been dialed
in each game and a big reason the team has been on a run.
Another big reason for the success has been the play of Cole
Ledgister, Ryan Beckner, Caleb Cumming, and Griffin Beddis. These players have
been machines for the team hitting players, forechecking and creating full
shifts wearing down defenders. They kill penalties and chip on power plays and are
a constant force against teams.
You need depth to win, and this team has a lot of it! Even
on defense the team has an abundance of skill and heart. Connor Palmer has been
a team leader in points all season, Tate Merritt has been playing physical
without landing in the box, Bernhardt does all the little things in a game you
need to win, Yianni Peppas has chipped in on the PK and has excelled with break
out passing, Cullen Derry can skate through a whole team and contribute, Jake
Patterson can play anywhere on the ice and is inserted all over and fits with
ease and Jackson McNichol has laid the body on the line and killed penalties as
well as helped on 5 on 5 play.
The Wolves broke the season into mini series against the
opposition and now have completed two series. They had two wins and a tie
against the Cambridge Hawks and now a sweep against the Jr Knights White. With
the final stretch of games coming the team will be looking to close up wins in
the other series with a keen eye on the games against Hamilton as the team
needs to win both to have a legit chance at finishing first overall! Currently,
the Wolves sit three points back and are determined to finish ahead.
Go Wolves!
