Wolves Clinch First
Wednesday nights game was not only important to the Waterloo Wolves because it was against a big rival, the Kitchener Jr Rangers, but it was also another hurdle in their quest to remain undefeated, and, it was a game where a win would clinch first overall in the league. With a 4 to 1 final, the Wolves ended the night with success on all fronts!

Things didn’t start well for the Wolves, finding themselves shorthanded early. However, Declan Uniac did not let that get in the way and took matters into his own hands with a solo effort resulting in a shorthanded goal for the Wolves. Cole Ledgister and Jackson Andrews both stepped up with 3-point performances. Both drew assists on a Ben Yong goal to go up 2 goals in the game before trading goals. Ledgister scored from Jaxon Broda and Andrews, and Andrews scored from Yong and Ledgister.

It was a gritty performance which has becomes the staple of Wolves hockey this season. The team was relentless on the forecheck with Michael Wei, Hunter McMurdo, Ethan Wasylyshyn and Cole Hunsberger all putting endless stop pressure on the Rangers defenders. Matthew Ball and Griffin Beddis supported down low and frustrated the Rangers as well.

The coaching staff had challenged the defenders to make the Rangers zone entries difficult and Cooper Gaul, Jackson McNichol and Riley Webster stood the Rangers up numerous times as Jackson Deitz used his speed to move pucks up the ice with ease.

Jack Driscoll had several breakaways against him and was perhaps the reason the Wolves stayed in control as well as they did. Driscoll came out to challenge shooters and was nice and square all game.

The Wolves will not have much time to enjoy the win with a huge game against the Cambridge Hawks on Grey Cup Sunday. Every time the Wolves hit the ice now there is a huge bullseye on the team with everyone wanting to be the first to draw blood against them. The players have done a great job working to improve and will need to keep that drive as they move forward searching for that Alliance banner.

Go Wolves!
