Wolves Feast on Huskies
The Waterloo Wolves U16 AA team kicked off the season with a dominate 8 to 1 win over the Hamilton Huskies in Hamilton Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves wanted to establish their style of play and start the game with the required intensity to dictate the pace of the game and the players did just that.

Right from the start the Wolves forwards were relentless going hard into the corners and finishing their checks. The forwards did a great job back checking as well and supporting their defense in their own zone. The defenders did a tremendous job head manning the puck up the ice, making life in their end miserable and putting pucks to the net all game.

Declan Uniac was on fire in the game recording a hattrick to start the season. Uniac’s first goal was set up from Matthew Ball, his second goal was assisted by Ethan Wasylyshyn and his third was a solo effort.

Both Griffin Beddis and Hunter McMurdo had two goal games. Beddis’ first goal was set up by a slick Tim Hodson pass and his second after he used his speed to blow past the Huskies defense and score an unassisted goal. McMurdo continued to show his scoring touch with a nice goal from Jackson McNichol and his second from Cooper Gaul and Jaxon Broda. Jackson Andrews scored from Cole Hunsberger and Jackson Dietz.

Possession was dominated by the Wolves. Cole Ledgister seemed to have the puck on a string at times and Ball was a work horse on faceoffs. Michael Wei as always was all over the ice showing his speed. Both Ben Yong and Riley Webster controlled play in the Wolves zone and were smart carrying the puck.

Hit of the game had to go to McNichol when he crushed a Hamilton player trying to gain the Wolves zone which didn’t see too much game play in but when it did, Jack Driscoll was solid between the pipes and covered up before the Huskies could get momentum.

Sunday is the teams home opener against their rival Brantford 99ers, and the Wolves will need to play hard and fast to keep up their winning ways as they work to earn back to back wins this weekend!

Go Wolves!
