Wolves Get Gold!
The Wolves travelled to St. Thomas this weekend to participate in their first tournament of the year....the Boston Pizza Cup.
In Friday's games the Wolves defeated the Barrie Colts and North Toronto U12.
Saturday morning the Wolves were matched up against the host team, the St. Thomas Stars. With 6 minutes left in the game, the Wolves found themselves down 3-1. A lot of effort and heart went into the final minutes and the result was 2 quick goals for the young Waterloo team. Unfortunately, in the dying seconds, the Stars got a lucky bounce and a 4-3 win, which moved our Wolves into second place after the round robin.
Saturday night's semi-final game found the Wolves matched up against North Toronto again. The Wolves came out flying and never looked back. An impressive 5-0 win for Waterloo gave them a spot in the finals on Sunday.
In Sunday's championship, the Wolves got another opportunity to play the Stars. Five minutes into the game the Stars opened the scoring. It didn't take Waterloo long to respond and tied up the game 30 seconds later. After some great chances and amazing saves for both teams, the regulation time ran out and we headed to a 4 on 4 overtime. The Wolves found the back of the Stars' net in the second minute of OT and were awarded the Gold Medal.
The Wolves grew as a team and impressed their coaches with some very well-played hockey! All your hard work and dedication to the team has paid off. Be proud of your weekend accomplishments!
