Major Atom Select take Scarborough Tourney
The Atom Select boys travelled to Scarborough to battle in the Valentines select tourney, this was the first time the players, coaches tried their hands against the hockey talent from GTHL East. Were the wolves going to be able to handle the big city, big boys from the big smoke....................

It was clear from the beginning that the wolves are a little spoiled with the comfy rinks in Waterloo, the rinks we played were small, smelly, parking was sketchy and well pretty old. That said, its hockey and we will play where they will have us.

The boys took the first two games 7-1 against the teams from Forest Hill and Scarborough, we had fantastic passing, skating, and great team play from all the boys as almost all players registered points over these games. Our team overpowered both of the teams and it was clear that our boys bought into the system the coaches have been teaching them. As the tourney allowed only 4 times, the two wins had us locked into the finals for Sunday. The question we had to ask ourselves, were we going to run the table 4-0 and leave with the hardware.

The second game of the tourney was Saturday morning, we then had 7 hours or so to kill before our next game, the parents and boys split up to fend for themselves, some hung out in the pool (wake up Ted and Cade), went to Dave and Busters (what am I going to do with all these credits I have leftover), had a tailgate BBQ, wasted time playing Fortnite and of course spent time just chilling.

Onto game three against the other undefeated team, the Tier 1 Select team from Ted Reeve - Saturday night hockey at 6:15. The message in the room prior to the game was to not think of this as a nothing game, play hard, bring the energy that gave us the 2-0 record to date. It was very clear the Ted Reeve team was a fast skating team with a couple very good game changing players and a small but very good goalie, real good. We shared a few goals, some unlucky goals and in the end they pulled off a 3-2 win. It was clear the 7 hours of extra curricular had our boys flat with minimal compete. Time to reset and sleep on it, what can we bring Sunday morning.

Sunday morning - Championship game - Same rink, same opponent - but we were the visitors wearing the take no prisoners black jerseys. Our message in the room was a combination of messages, reminding them to reset and forget about yesterday, you are all wearing the same wolves logo, do not disappoint or quit on the linemate sitting beside you, this was finished off with a motivational  sound clip from various movies the last 20 years. The boys were ready, the coaches were ready and as always the rock solid wolves fans were certainly ready........was Ted Reeve ready for round two.

The coaches recognized a certain line from the first game that was very strong, so we tried to match their top scoring line, did they have any other weapons to put the puck past our goalies - who played very steady and strong all weekend. As we have done all weekend long we shared the scoring in this game with all our lines contributing. At the end of the game - final buzzer the boys in black won the game that mattered - Wolves Win.

Once again - EVERY PLAYER registered a point in the tourney, the coaches can't ask for anything else other than to continue to play together as a team, dig deep on each shift and trust your linemates. As we move into the 3rd phase of the season we are setting our eyes on the Alliance Championship in April - the prize that we are all looking to go after. I can promise you that myself and all the coaches will continue to work with, mentor, remind, and encourage the boys until the last whistle of the season, we are all in this together and the coaching staff has a never give up attitude. Let's go get em Boys!!

Two Tourneys, Two Championships, Two Awesome Weekends, Too many great memories.

Go Wolves Go
