The road to the playoffs just got a little bit harder as
Waterloo
had their pockets picked with a 4 – 3 loss to Kitchener Blue
Right from the warm up skate, Waterloo set the tone of the game as they came out high flying. Enoch Banjo jumped on the puck in the corner of Kitchener’s zone. From what was an impossible angle, the puck ended up buried in Kitchener’s net. Waterloo kept coming with some heavy fore-checking throughout the period.
The second period saw things get a bit physical as Waterloo took it to Kitchener on the aggressive fore-check. Kitchener snuck one past Logan who has been nothing less than stellar between the wickets for Waterloo. Enoch notched his second goal of the game as he undressed the Kitchener defense. He kept going hard to the net and then went bar-down. Nothing but net. Waterloo was back on top 2 – 1 with 3 minutes left in the period. No one knows for sure how Kitchener got the equalizer as time was nearly over in the second.
The wolves stepped up their game in the third as they put serious pressure on Kitchener. The ref’s saw it differently as they called penalty after penalty against Waterloo. The defense stood strong thoughout the penalty kills and did not allow the puck to get near the net. On a “pinball” shot from the blue line, Kitchener went up 3 – 2. Waterloo seemed to have a cool demeanor with time winding down and the face off deep in Kitchener’s zone. Defenseman, Easton Oberholtzer, who was playing winger for this game, buried the puck top cheese to make the match all square. The march to the penalty box was steady which cost the Wolves the tie as Kitchener took advantage on the power play to go up 4 – 3. The boys threw everything they had at Kitchener but time was not on their side.
Tough start to the playoffs boys. Skate hard, attack the puck and crash the net. Good luck against Hamilton Red on Sunday.
