This years Minor Bantam Select try-outs are coming up fast! Parents, please see the information below on how the tryouts will be run this year along with some information in regards to the upcoming season.

Player Selection:Evaluations will be completed by a group of individuals, which includes coaches and volunteers. We will be looking for players that bring a solid combination of fundamental hockey skills, strong work ethic, and a desire to grow as not only a player, but also as a teammate. Players will be assessed on the following criteria:
  • Skating – acceleration, agility, speed, edges, change of pace, stability.
  • Passing - clean passing, smooth pass reception, awareness of teammates, ability to make smart passes
  • Shooting - Power, accuracy, quick release, can shoot in motion.
  • Puck control - Head up, good hands, strong on puck, puck protection.
  • Positional play - Ability to see the play developing both offensively and defensively and moves to support puck and teammates, good judgement, anticipation, and disciplined play.
  • Attitude - Positive encouragement of teammates, desire to learn new skills, desire to help others, response to feedback

A commitment to respect and sportsmanship will be required whether on or off the ice.

Releases: We understand that this can be a very stressful time for both the players and their parents. We ask that you respect the process and the decisions made by the staff on team selection. We ask that you please wait for 24 hours prior to contacting us with any questions after player releases. We will be happy to provide feedback after the 24 hours has passed. During final releases, some players may be asked to be an AP player with the team. AP players will be provided opportunities through-out the season to practice and/or play games with the team. Depending on the costs of the additional practice times, a player may be asked to help fund the cost of that ice as they will be participating.

Upcoming Season: Our regular home ice-time rotates between Sundays at 7pm and Saturdays at 8pm, both at Albert East. Regular season games are now being scheduled and will be posted on our team calendar shortly. We hope to schedule 18 regular season games total including both home and away. We have purchased additional practice ice-time in Wellesley for Tuesday nights at 5pm.

Overall, the goal for this season is built around fun. As a non-parent group, our main goal is to provide an atmosphere that is fun and exciting for our players, no matter what our record is at the end of the year. Additionally, we believe this an age group where we can really help the boys develop some life skills through the game of hockey and will be focusing on developing skills like confidence, patience, self-discipline and respect.

Information regarding our team budget, tournaments and dress code will be covered in our parent meeting which will be help the week following our team selection.

If you have any questions in regards to the try-out process or the upcoming season, please do not hesitate to send Tyler or myself an email at [email protected] [email protected].

Cheers,
