Wolves show grit in first big weekend
Peewee selects had a very strong weekend against two tough opponents. Despite results not going in our favor a 2-0 loss and 2-2 tie, the players demonstrated strong commitment to team defense and pushed the pace of play.

On Saturday in front a loud home crowd the Wolves played their cross County rivals the Kitchener Rangers. It was a fast paced, exciting game with lots of back and forth play. Kitchener was able to capitalize on two rebound chances in close, while Waterloo was held off the score sheet. The coaches were very impressed with the players efforts, especially given that this was our first game implementing our new defensive zone positioning and forecheck.

Sunday night the Wolves skated away with a 2-2 draw against the Centre Wellington Fusion. The Wolves played hard and controlled the pace of play most of the night - resulting in a lopsided shot total of 40 (Wolves) - 12 (Fusion). Strong play in between the pipes for the Fusion and two early goals saw the Fusion take the lead into the third period. Waterloo came out on fire in the third throwing everything at the Fusion. Eventually we were able to get one goal on a nice rebound by in close. Still Waterloo needed some third period heroics to secure the tie. With the goalie pulled the Wolves tied the game with under a minute to play. Again the coaches were impressed with all of the players commitment to the systems and support of each other.

As a team we have seen continuous improvement each and every game. The best part is the smiles on the faces of all the players before the game, during warm-up and after the game regardless of the results. Our team focus is to get better each game - if we do that the results will take care of themselves.

Wolves return to action next Saturday against the same Centre Wellington Fusion. Players invite your house league teammates out to the cheer you.
