Secured Spot in the Final Four!!
The stakes were high Sunday evening as Wolves Black hosted Cambridge Hawks at Albert West. Tension was high and the team's focus was on, knowing that this game could be the deciding factor in the continuation of Waterloo's season. With Waterloo sitting in the fourth and final spot for the next round of play, they knew they were going to have to make this game count.

The first period the play saw the puck going back and forth making it evident that Cambridge was not going to roll over and give the win to Waterloo. This was going to be a battle. Minutes into the first period the Hawks put the first goal on the board with a hard, top shelf, glove side shot from the point. This would not deter the Wolves who put the pressure on to finish off the first ten minutes of play. The defensive duo of McMurry and Rudolph picked up the pace, chasing down the Hawk's forwards to shut down their scoring chances; while forwards Williams and C. Eamer cleared the puck out of our zone, over the blue line to put us in scoring position.
As the second period began, the Wolves were down 1-0 and you could see the desire in their eyes to play with a purpose every time they stepped out on the ice. Bosomworth started things off early with two quick goals at the beginning of the second. #66 had great forward passing and digging in the corners, that set up the assists for both these goals. Langlois and Arnold played great D; clearing the puck from in front of our net, while also keeping the puck in the Hawk's zone and pressuring their forwards at the blue line. However, with a one point lead that would not be the end of Waterloo's battle. Cambridge answered this one goal advantage and managed to bury a second goal midway through the period. At the end of two, the score was tied.
The stage was set for an exciting third period. Back and fourth play occupied the first half of the third period. Many scrambles occurred in front of both nets, but no puck found its way over the red goal line. As we reached the halfway point of the period, #3 Miller was on fire. Digging in the corners to gain puck possession and putting pressure on the Hawks defence to cough up the puck. Williams #10 and Becker #4 were right in there alongside Miller and it was just to much for Cambridge to handle. With two back to back goals for Miller the score was now 4-2 for Waterloo. The defensive K2 pairing of Jespersen and Schaefer passed the puck around well, creating time and space to set up for some shots. As we entered into the last two minutes of play, the duo of Beckner and Williams made one final push for the Wolves and increased the point differential to three. With a final score of 5-2 the Wolves have secured a spot in the next round of play.
Honorable mention for Sunday's game goes out to: #10 Jyrkama for winning those tough battles on the board, #2 Hancock for quick, accurate passes and #31 Obermayer for some great saves helping to keep the Wolves in the game. Well done to all players for their hard work and good luck as you take on Kitchener Jr Rangers Blue this week.
