Wayne Gretzky International Tourney
The Wolves participated in the Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament at the end of December.

In the round robin part of the tournament, they faced Belleville, Barrie and Peterborough.  The first 3 games were close and the Wolves played really well against some good teams, but they managed to only get a single point with a tie against Belleville in the opening game.

The Wolves ended up in the consolation division after the round robin and faced Guelph in the quarter finals.  The Wolves came out flying and got a convincing 5-0 win to advance.

In the semi-finals, the team met Hamilton Huskies (Red).  The two teams had met twice previously in league play.  The Huskies won the first meeting and the teams tied in the second meeting.  The Wolves opened the scoring and followed up with a second goal to take a 2-0 lead.  The Huskies battled back to tie the game at 2.  A power play for the Wolves allowed them to take the lead again.  Once again the Huskies battled back to tie the game at 3. At the end of regulation time the game remained tied and we headed into 3 on 3 overtime.  The Wolves applied a ton of pressure, but a bad bounce resulted in a break away for the Huskies.  The puck trickled into the net and the Wolves were eliminated.

Hockey is always fun and playing five games in 3 days was great, but the highlight of the tournament was meeting Wayne Gretzky in the hallway after one of our games.  He took the time for a quick team picture, but had to do the opening faceoff for another game.  After his prior commitments, he signed some items for the Wolves team!  They don't just call him the Great One because of his hockey accomplishments!
