Novice Gold finishes the job on day three
of the Alliance Championships
The Wolves faced a tough Sarnia Sting squad in the finals. The Wolves started the game with some jump but took a penalty early in the first and speedy 77 on Sarnia took advantage with a powerplay goal and a 1-0 lead for Sarnia. The Wolves would scrap and battle and forecheck until well into the second period. Ryder H. finally stuffed a rebound from Wyatt M. and Rohan J. on the powerplay to tie the game 1-1. The Wolves would continue the attack, with Hunter C. getting another rebound from Emre A. and Grayson P. for the 2-1 lead with 11s left in the second.
In the third, the Wolves had several chances but failed to get an insurance goal. Sarnia started to get some momentum and 77 would get his second of the game to tie the game 2-2 with only 2:09 left in regulation. Sarnia would keep the heat on for the rest of the period, but goalie Ty B. was determined to keep them at 2 until the end of the third and force the overtime.
The Wolves regrouped, with the coaches reminding them to return to their aggressive forecheck and go for the win. Grayson S. would end it early with a rush and low five hole shot that snuck through after just 27s of OT.
