2017 Pepsi Invitational Tournament Champions!
Congratulations to the Waterloo Major Bantam Select 2002 on a dominant performance at the Pepsi Invitational tournament in Buffalo NY this weekend.
We started the weekend on Friday with a solid victory against the Southtown Stars (Buffalo Team) and then cruised through Saturday with two dominant victories against a very tough Barrie Colts team and the Lefroy Icebreakers. On championship Sunday, we were faced with the classic trap game, once again our opponent was the Barrie Colts team who were not pleased with the outcome of our first meeting. Our boys, dug their skates into the ice and came away with a hard fought 2-1 victory, opening the door to the tournament finals.
The final game saw our boys drop the first goal to a Jordan Lions team who came out flying. After a quick regroup between the first and second periods, the team came together and decided that Waterloo was not going to give up. We dominated the second period with an aggressive fore-check and cycle game that we had not shown all year. We simply wore down the Jordan Lions and outscored the opponent 4-1 in that period. In the third period, our boys continued to battle scoring 2 more goals and giving up 1. That was enough for the team to win the championship 6-3!
