Game #1 & #2
We start our season off with a home and away vs the Halton Hills Thunder.

         Game #1

Time to get our feet wet with a lot of new players against a strong skating team from Halton.  We start out quick 2 1/2 minutes in, Baker feeds Kelly up the left side and his quick release from the top of the circle goes top cheese over the goalie's glove for a 1-0 lead. Halton responds 2 minutes later with a wrap around goal to tie things at one. 30 seconds later Halton digs a puck out from the corner to the face off dot and the shot somehow slides under the goalie for a 2-1 Halton lead. Taking matters into their own hands, Baker wins the next face off forward to Illes who puts it down low and the fore check is too much for Halton as Illes gets the puck to Baker who quickly finishes on the short side for our 12 second rebuttal to knot things up at 2. The second period begins with both teams sending bodies to the box.  We start the parade early and Halton doesn't hold back with both teams getting 3 penalties each in the second. On the power play half way through the 2nd Crawford feeds Haffey for the go ahead goal to put the Wolves up 3-2. The 3rd period we headed to the box again and Halton capitalized on the power play 1 1/2 minutes in to tie things back up at 3's.  We were curfewed with 4 minutes left and left the ice with a tie for the home opener.  Good Start, learned some things, hustle was there, need to cut back on the penalties. Let's build off it and focus on game #2.

        Game #2

Discipline, and Effort, will be our focus.  Take care of our own end and let's get more pucks to the net. Halton is in the box 30 seconds into the game. Less than a minute in Kueneman (10) scores on the power play unassisted. 1-0 Wolves. Half way through the first Halton is in the box again. This time Hooper feeds Crawford up the right side and we have a 2 on 1 with Haffey going hard to the net. Crawford lays out a nice touch pass past the defender onto Haffey's stick wihich is promplty jammed home as the bodies crashed to the boards. The dust settles, 2-0 Wolves. Start the 2nd, and the puck gets deep into our end, our clearing attempt gets picked up at the blue line and a quick cross ice pass down low and in the back of the net and it's 2-1. 5 minutes later playing 5 on 5 McBain gets the puck up ice to Kelly who feeds Kueneman (10) and he finishes the job to put the Wolves up 3-1.  Halton sticks to their guns and show no quit. They cross the blue line and place one on the ice off the far post to make it 3-2 just 30 seconds after we scored. Off to the 3rd period, we need to keep the effort up and keep the pressure on Halton. 4 minutes into the 3rd Halton is back in the box. 30 seconds into the power play Crawford picks a puck up in the corner and swings back towards the blue line then across the slot. Still looking for something he continues back up the ice towards the far corner and see's an opening and parks one short side. 4-2 Wolves. Late in the 3rd Halton pulls their goalie and Kueneman (14) flys down the right side and fends off a few defenders and put's the dagger in with 9 seconds remaining. 5-2 final, great effort all around. The D moved the puck well tonight and made several impressive blocked shots to add to Halton's frustration as we really limited their opportunities. Let's keep having fun and build on this as we visit Cambridge for our next outing. Focus on improving within our system, and the rewards of your best effort will take this team as far as you want to take it.
