About this years Atom Select Hockey team:
Select hockey is made up of players from the Waterloo house league program who tryout for the team and are selected from amongst the candidates. Our select team will play other area select teams in exhibition games and tournaments. In order to qualify to play for this years team a player must be born in 2005 and must be registered to play house league in Waterloo through WMHA. In addition players trying out must have the tryout fee of $25.00 paid through the head office at Rim park in waterloo to be able to tryout (before Oct 3rd).
There will be no "pay at the door" available. If your name is not on the list you will not be able to tryout.
Only players who attend the tryout sessions will be considered for the select team regardless of how good they are or whether they played select in a previous year. All spots on this years team are open and we will carry 2 goalies, 6 defensemen and 9 forwards.
Potentially we may also designate some players as AP's (Alternate Players).
What am I looking for in players?
1. Skating ability: Speed, edges, and stopping (forwards and backwards).
2. Hockey skills: Passing, shooting, stick handling and positioning.
3. Hockey smarts: Players that show an aptitude for the game and a willingness to learn.
4. Effort: Players with a high compete level that give it their all in games and practices.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts for the Major Atom Select team will be on the following dates
Sat, Oct 03 6:00 PM-7:00 PM ~~ Albert McCormick (East)
Sun, Oct 04 8:30 AM-9:30 AM ~~ Albert McCormick (West)
Sun, Oct 04 6:00 PM-7:00 PM ~~ Albert McCormick (East)
Who should tryout?
Everyone. Tryouts are a great way to get some extra ice time and to get exposure to the competition of trying to make a team regardless of current skill level. I strongly encourage all players who are interested in select hockey to come to the tryouts
What will the select season look like?
I plan to have 8-10 practices and play 16 exhibition games (8 home & 8 away ) against local select teams in our area. * we might be able to get more extra ice times during the season if needed*
We plan to participate in 2 tournaments (tournaments will be 3-5 games depending on how we perform)
The season will begin right after tryouts conclude, first practice is Oct 10th and will end with the Alliance Championships tournament in April.
Once the team is selected a parents/coaches meeting will be scheduled right away, would like to have that meeting before our first practice but will have that date and time confirmed soon.
