This Week in Novice Red Hockey - Last Article of the Season...
Life is simple. Eat. Sleep. Play Hockey. And that they did.  From September to March, our boys have lived and breathed hockey.  They and their families showed incredible commitment, determination and passion for the game.

It has been a tremendous first year of MD hockey for the Novice Red boys and we are forever grateful to the coaching leadership of Dave Officer and the commitment made by Chad, Bruce, Alex and Dave Gould.
While it has now come to an end, it was truly an amazing and memorable season.  Our boys have learned so much, developed tremendously, learned about teamwork and made great friends.  Parents and families have cheered with racing hearts, fist-pumping the wins and consoling through the losses.  The highs, lows and friendships have all been a part of the great game of hockey.

In summary, we finished off our last eight round-robin games with an impressive 7-1-0 record which put us in second place among the nine Tier 3 teams.  The last game of the regular season was extra special because coach-driver and mom, Lorraine drove all the boys, families and coaches to St. Catharines for the final game on a coach bus!  Parents enjoyed some tailgating while the boys prepped for their amazing 10-3 win over the Hurricanes.

Playdowns began with a tough game against Cambridge Red as several of our players battled the flu and played hard despite not feeling their best.  We lost the first game 6-1.  Incredibly, the boys battled back to tie the series with an incredible 1-0 overtime win with outstanding goaltending and a magical break-away goal by Casey on Saturday afternoon at our home McCormick rink.  The boys and parents celebrated the win with wings at Morty's.
The third game was held late on Sunday afternoon and despite incredible efforts and several boys still not 100%, it resulted in a very tough 2-0 loss and an end to the season.  There were some very sad boys on Sunday evening.

As a consolation, the coaches put together one last on-ice practice filled with games, goofiness, relays and an all-at-once-all-shots-on-Alex finale.  The coaches were each presented with a custom photo book that celebrates the great season and cupcakes and donuts were enjoyed by all.

We look forward to a fun year-end party in the coming weeks!  An extra thanks to the social committee for all their planning!   Thanks to everyone for a magical-hockey-ride.  Best wishes to all players and coaches and families!

Enjoy the summer and we'll see you back at a rink in just a few short months!
