Minor Pee Wee Black Come Back from 2-0 Deficit to Take Game 2
The Waterloo Minor Pee Wee Black Wolves traveled to Burlington yesterday for Game 1 in the series. Burlington opened the scoring five minutes into the game. Waterloo answered in the second period with a goal by Jackson McMurdo from Matt Hohendorn. The score remained tied 1-1 until late into the third mostly on the excellent goal-tending of Andreas Oudejans-Hall. Burlington scored with 6:52 to go in the third; a mere 14 seconds after Waterloo had successfully killed their third penalty of the game. Burlington scored their third goal in an empty net with 2 seconds left on the clock to take Game 1.
Today the series returned to Waterloo. Burlington jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after scoring two goals in the first minute of play. The Waterloo boys settled, refocused and cut the lead by one when Aiden Shah scored unassisted toward the end of the first. Waterloo tied the game on a power play goal with 2:58 to go in the second. Roane Morrow held the puck in and moved it to Jackson McMurdo who passed it to Dominic Hemphill on the point. Dominic put a waist height slapshot on net and Shah scored his second goal of the game on the redirect. Waterloo took the lead with 8:24 to go in the third when McMurdo popped the puck in on a goal mouth scramble. Assists went to Dylan Lamba-Rautapuro and Evan Howe.
Waterloo found themselves short handed with 1:43 to go in the game. Burlington quickly pulled their goalie giving them a 6 on 4 advantage. The Waterloo penalty kill had been strong all day and with the spectacular goal-tending of Jack Langlois (23 saves), did not disappoint. The team held the neutral zone the result of approximately 40 seconds of aggressive play by Morrow, Lamba-Rautapuro, Ben Lemon and Hemphill.
The Minor Pee Wee Black Wolves never gave up and this was a team victory. All forwards executed the game plan and the D Corps were outstanding in that they kept many of Burlington's shots to the perimeter.
The coaching staff is very proud of all players on a great victory the result of a great effort with excellent emotional control. Game 3 goes in Burlington Tuesday night.
