1st Games of the New Year
Read Gina's blog as she captured the excitement of a big weekend for the Timber Wolves!

The Timber Wolves started the new year with a positive vibe. Sat. January the 4th the Timber Wolves hosted the St. Catherines Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have improved their game since the beginning of the season & have shown they've got what it takes to compete at this level! St. Catherines came on the ice ready to battle & scored the 1st goal with 6:45 remaining in the 2nd. The Timber Wolves realized they had to up their game & less than a minute later #44 Ryan Class made a sweet pass from the boards to #14 Robbie Young who did some sweet stick handling & shot across the front of the net, blocker side & in, tying it up 1-1. The Hurricanes landed themselves in the box for body checking at 3:46 in the 2nd & tripping at 1:51. #7 Jacob Bender of the Timber Wolves overlapped some of the Hurricanes penalty minutes & served 2 minutes for interference with 3:03 to play in the 2nd. Just over 13 minutes left in the game, a St. Catherines player was back in the box. 2 minutes for hooking. That didn't slow the Hurricanes down though, 8 seconds after the penalty expired the Hurricanes scored their 2nd goal to take the lead 2-1 at the 11:10 mark of the 3rd.  The Hurricanes served another 2 min. penalty for body checking at 6:51. The Timber Wolves weren't able to tie up the game with the man advantage but weren't going down without a fight! Just over 2 minutes of play left in the game #10 Liam Karges passed the puck up to #44 Ryan Class, who quoted after the game "I shot it off the goalie & over his shoulder!" After trailing most of the game by a goal the Timber Wolves came back & finished the game with a 2-2 tie. #4 Caiden Benwell played a great defensive game from start to finish, #9 Richard Wang showed his team, the other team & everyone in the stands his checking & turn over skills & #27 Kayden Curtis-Wolfe blocked shots & denied scoring opportunities for the Hurricanes almost every shift he was on the ice.

Sunday, Jan. 5th the Timber Wolves were visitors on their home ice, playing against their brother team the Ice Wolves. Just over 3 minutes into the game, #10 Liam Karges scored a far side corner goal at 6:28, assisted by #14 Robbie Young & #44 Ryan Class. To finish off the 1st period an Ice Wolves player went in the box for hooking at 2:19. Goaltender #31 Ryan May made some incredible saves & finished his portion of the game in net with a SHUT OUT! Way to go Ryan. With 2:51 to play in the 2nd the Ice Wolves were back in the box. This time for body checking. Less than 10 seconds to go in the 2nd #44 Ryan Class took a hard shot on net that bounced off the goalie & #10 Liam Karges scooped it up & back handed it over the goalie to close the 2nd period with a 2-0 lead. 9:28 left in the game the Ice Wolves had a man back in the box for body checking. They were determined to get on the score board though & did so with a short handed goal at 8:22. As the clock was winding down Karges & Class had one more up their sleeves! #10 Liam Karges passed the puck up to #44 Ryan Class, who deked out 3 players & the goalie to bury it top shelf at 2:05. The Timber Wolves won 3-1. The whole team did an exceptional job all weekend! Great attempts on net, beauty passing by all players & terrific goal tending by both goalies!

Time to show the other teams what the Timber Wolves are really made of!
