Strong String of Games
Written by Shawn Thompson

The Wolves faced a very busy weekend knowing they needed to make up some ground on the teams ahead of them and they did just that.

It started on Thursday as the Wolves began their busy weekend of games against the Cambridge Hawks. As per usual
when playing the Hawks, it was a tight checking affair with very few scoring chances for both sides. The Hawks scored the first goal to take the early lead and then added a second goal to further their lead 2-0 heading into the third period.
Thankfully, the Wolves pressed the gas and were able to tie the Hawks on goals by Jake Macdonald and Owen Parsons. Assists were earned by Jake Anderson and Jacob Thompson.

With no rest for the weary, the Wolves pressed on and drove to Hamilton to play the Huskies on Friday night. It was a rather chippy affair as the two teams had played one another a number of times these past two weeks leading to some heightened emotions. The Wolves edged the Huskies 5-4 to claim two very important points. Goal scorers were Jake Thompson, Kyle Maloney, Cooper Way (2), Preston Young, and Jaxson Murray. Assists were garnered by Jake Anderson (2), Jacob Thompson, Jake Macdonald, Cooper Way, Kyle Maloney and Cal Ressor.

After a reprieve of one day, the Wolves were back at it against the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. The Chiefs got out to a very early lead in the first period on a breakaway. Knowing that every point is so important at this time of year, the Wolves quickly answered back on a deflected shot from the point by Luke Ronson from Kyle Maloney. The Wolves then took a brief lead on a scramble in front of the Elgin Middlesex net, as Ryan Hanson scored from Preston Young and Owen Parsons. The Chiefs answered back as both teams headed into the third knotted at two a piece. Swift skating Jake Macdonald scored a very important goal from Jake Anderson to send the Wolves ahead and then Jaxson Murray scored unassisted into an empty net to seal the victory and a very important 2 points. Misha Stastna was phenomenal in net especially on a cross-ice save that showed his lateral movement, as was the defence who kept this talented Chief squad to just two goals.

On Monday, the Wolves wrapped up their busy schedule when they played the Brantford 99ers. The 99ers were down early on a smart goal by Kyle Maloney who had maybe his best game of the year scoring 3 goals and garnering 1 assist. The 99ers quickly answered back and the shoot-out began, as one team would score the other answered soon after. At one point, the 99ers were up 3-1 but the Wolves would not be denied and continued to claw back winning the game in dramatic fashion on a late unassisted goal from Kyle Maloney to pull ahead by one. Then Jake Macdonald scored to make it 7-5 on a beautiful pass from Maloney. Other goal scorers were Jackson Murray, Owen Parsons and Ryan Hanson. Assists were earned by Jake Thompson and Owen Parsons.

The Wolves now head to Sarnia to take part in the Silver Stick Tournament against some very strong competition. Keep it up Wolves!
