Four Point Weekend
Written by Shawn Thompson

The Waterloo Wolves Major Atom Rep Team had a very prosperous weekend by picking up 4 points with victories over the Cambridge Hawks and the Brantford 99ers in their two weekend games.

Saturday's game was a hard fought one as the Wolves narrowly defeated the Hawks by a score of 3-2. All stops had to be pulled out to garner this victory with a last minute goal by Jake Thompson who scored on a breakaway as the Wolves were killing a penalty. The game was a back and forth one with two evenly matched teams. The Wolves scored early to get the lead as Jaxson Murray put one home with an assist earned by Jake McDonald. The Hawks then scored twice to take the lead before Preston Young scored on a beautiful passing play by Kyle Maloney and Spencer Young to tie it up.

On Sunday, the Wolves came out strong in hopes of avenging a 5-2 loss to the 99ers in early November. Kyle Maloney scored a beauty on a breakaway which started from a strong pass from Braydon Hislop on a well designed break-out to open the score 1-0 and the Wolves stayed ahead from that point on. Owen Parsons scored a short handed goal after a nifty move on a Brantford defender to put the Wolves up by a score of 2-0. Parson's goal was assisted by Cal Reesnor. From that point on, the game was a tight one as Brantford continued to press to try to make a comeback. Other goal scorers were Preston Young, Jaxson Murray and Kyle Maloney who scored an open net goal while penalty killing as Brantford had 6 attackers on against 3 from Waterloo to seal the 5-2 victory. Assists were earned by Spencer Young, Jake McDonald, Owen Parsons, Kyle Maloney and Luke Ronson. Marshall Nicholls was strong in net throughout the game and kept the talented 99ers at bay.

The Wolves now gear up for weekend matches against the Huron Perth Lakers on Saturday followed by the London Junior Knights on Sunday. Both are away games.
